Mr. Halmon, Agent Freedmen's Bureau
Sir:
Whereas my husband Peter Hurse has, without my knowledge or consent, deserted me and gone to parts unknown (to me), and whereas I am now dependent (in part) on the labor of my son Henry for a support for myself and four (4) little children, heretofore I, Sophie Jane Carr, do denounce all alliance to, and reliance on said Peter Hurse, disclaim all further connection with him in any way, and now claim a right to the hire of my son Henry, whose services Mr. Tilford Holland had last year, and which he has not yet paid, and I now desire & request you, as legal agent, to collect & refund said hire to me.
Very Respectfully,
Your Obdt. Svt.
Sophie J. Carr
